| Yes I think I know just what that is. It is a mother raccoon and her kits. Raccoons love to get in attics this time of year to have their babies, usually four, about kitten sized at birth. About ten days later their eyes open, but mostly they stay put and do not crawl around until they are four weeks old, then they are just like an 8 ounce kitten. Now the mother will move them after they can follow her outside and then you can close up whatever hole they found into your attic. I wouldn't try to catch the mother right now, because without her the babies will die and you will have a stinky attic. Raccoons are fairly tidy, so I wouldn't worry about them messing up the attic too much. If you put some dog or cat food in a secluded area close to your house where you can observe but not be seen or heard, the mother will bring her babies out in a month or so to teach them and you will get to see them. They are very intelligent, and very family oriented. I have raised numerous baby raccoons from the bottle to adulthood when their mother's were killed and they are sweet playful animals. I wouldn't try to touch the mother or babies in the tight crawls space, because she will defend them and bite. Raccoons do not carry or have rabies any more than stray dogs and cats, so that is not as much a worry as people will try to make you think. Just leave them alone until Mom moves them to a new den in a month or so. | ||

In the early 1950s crawl space foundation vents were introduced to eliminate humidity in crawlspaces. Over time contractors and inspectors realized the vents that were installed to remove humidity in fact helped to increase the humidity level in most crawlspaces. They allow hot humid air in the summer months to enter the cool environment of a crawlspace. The humid air would condense and create higher humidity levels under your home. This would eventually lead to mold and fungus growth. Now building codes are changing to allow builders to construct conditioned crawlspaces without crawl space foundation vents. Conditioning the crawl space is the practice of removing all components that cause moisture. ie: leaking pipes, broken dryer vents, ground water entering through the foundation, etc. A proper vapor barrier needs to be installed to prevent moisture from evaporating from the soil into the home. After the clean space has been created the air in the crawl space can be conditioned by one of several different ways depending on the crawlspaces individual situation. All components need to be in place or the desired results will not be achieved |
